Hi! I’m Sònia and I’m from Monte-Carlo a city situated in Monaco between the Southern Alps and Mediterranean .
Monte-Carlo is not the capital of Monaco, it’s only a city-state.
The origin of the name of my city is Italian and means Monte-Carlos in honour of the prince Carlos III of Monaco.
Monte-Carlo is 0,2814 km², in 2000 we were about 3.000 habitants. We speak French that is the official language and also Italian and English and we have a traditional language called "le Monegù”.
We have euro but we also use Monegasque coins.
Our weather is the typical of Mediterranean Sea .
Monte-Carlo is famous because of the casinos, the museums and also for the Monaco Grand Prix circuit of Formula 1 between others things.
The first casino in my city is from 1862 but it wasn’t very popular so it moved to other place.
In this epoch the city was poor but then appeared the rail and with it came people and money.
In 2003 we finished a new cruise ship pier in Monte Carlo’s harbour.
In my city the tourism is very important it’s for this that we have a lot of hotels, also it’s an expensive city.
