Morocco
My country, Morocco, is located in the north of Africa between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The population is nearly 34 million and an area just under 447,000 km2. The capital is Rabat and the largest city is Casablanca, where my parents were born. Morocco has international borders with Algeria to the east, Spain to the north and Mauritania to the south. The religion is Islam.
There the people speak classic Arabic, but higher education is conducted in French. Morocco is a constituional monarchy with an elected parliament; the king is Sidi Mohammed VI. Morocco has yet to solve the conflict for independence of Western Sahara. The official currency is dirham and PIB is 4309 dollars per inhabitant.
The birth rate is 19 (for 1000 habitants) and the death rate is 5 (for 1000 habitants), so the demographic growth is +1,64%. The quality of life is the best in Africa, but the unemployment is 9,9%.
The main environmental problem is related to desertification (erosion, deforestation, overgrazing and water scarcity). The climate is Mediterranean, which becomes more extreme towards the interior regions where it is mountainous.
If you go to Tangier you must visit the American Legation Museum; it’s a house in a beautiful stone building in the Medina of Tangier, this museum has on display beautiful examples of art from the 17th century right through to present day.
The coastal plains are rich and are engaged in agriculture. After it there are Atlas Mountains and south starts the Sahara desert.
The name of Mediterranean Sea in Morocco is “Al-Bahr al-Mutawasit”, that means sea that is in the middle.
